Six Ways to Express Gratitude This November

Grand gestures of gratitude are great but at this time of year, who has time for that? Between the shopping, the preparation that goes into hosting houseguests, not to mention all the cooking and baking, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of the holidays and forget what they’re really all about.

Keep reading for six easy ways to show gratitude this November.

1. Share Your Appreciation

We often feel grateful for (most of) the people in our lives, and we assume that they know what they mean to us. We get a little lax on showing our appreciation. This November, make a deliberate effort to let your loved ones know why you appreciate them. If possible, site-specific examples of how they’ve made your life better.

2. Get a Gift? Show It Off!

The gift-buying process doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Some people have a knack for buying the perfect gifts for their loved ones, while others agonize over looking for a good gift. This season, show your gratitude for the gifts you receive by showing them off. If you’ve received an article of clothing, make sure you wear it when you’re around the one that gave it to you, and display gifted artwork on your desk or on a shelf at home.

3. Showing Gratitude for a Job Well Done

This time of year is hectic for everyone, but it’s particularly busy for those working in the retail and hospitality industries. If you receive good service at a store, restaurant, or hotel, make sure to express gratitude to the service provider, and if possible, share your experience with their supervisor.

4. Say “Thanks” with Food

Whether it’s a parent, a friend, an adult child, or a colleague, everyone loves being thanked with a homemade meal or a baked good. If the kitchen isn’t your domain, then consider making a stop at your local bakery or using a meal service to have food from their favorite restaurant delivered to their doorstep.

5. Write a Thank You Note

Writing thank you notes is a lost art; for the most part, no one really writes them anymore, and few people actually expect to receive one. This year, take a few extra minutes to write out a thank you note that mentions the gift that you received and how much you appreciate the gesture. It takes almost no time at all but is a great way to express gratitude.

6. Journal Your Blessings

Maybe you feel like you have an abundance of things to be thankful for, or maybe this has been a difficult year for you. Either way, the best way to create a sense of gratitude this season is by journaling your blessings. Take a few minutes each night before you go to bed to write down a few things that you’re thankful for.
