Will a voicemail transfer to a new phone?

It may transfer when you keep the same phone number, carrier, and voicemail service, but there is no guarantee that every saved message will appear on the new device.

Save important voicemails before replacing a phone, resetting a device, restoring factory settings, or changing the voicemail app.

Will changing carriers delete saved voicemails?

4. How to save a voicemail from a Samsung Galaxy phone

Samsung phones may use a Visual Voicemail app provided by Samsung or the wireless carrier. The exact interface can therefore look different from one phone to another.

1. Open the Visual Voicemail or Voicemail app.
2. Select the voicemail you want to preserve.
3. Look for Share, Send, Save, or Export.
4. If those options are not visible, open the three-dot menu.
5. Choose My Files, Google Drive, email, or another storage location.

Google Voice is separate from the voicemail service included with a standard mobile-phone plan. Google Voice messages are connected to the Google account and Google Voice number being used.

1. Open Google Voice in a desktop web browser.
2. Sign in to the Google account connected to the Voice number.
3. Open the Voicemail section.
4. Select the message you want to preserve.

Export all Google Voice voicemails

Google also allows users to export their Google Voice data. The export can include voicemails, voicemail transcripts, voicemail greetings, call logs, text messages, and other account information.

How to make a clear recording with a second device

1. Move to a quiet room.
2. Turn off televisions, fans, music, and other background noise.
3. Turn off notifications on both devices.
4. Place the recording device near the phone speaker.
5. Start recording on the second device.
6. Play the voicemail from beginning to end.
7. Stop the recording.
8. Listen to the new copy with headphones if possible.
9. Repeat the process if the voice is too quiet or distorted.

Use more than one backup location

For a recording that cannot be replaced, keep at least two copies in different locations.
