5 Popular Towns to Visit on the Fourth of July

Summer is in full swing and the fourth of July is rapidly approaching. For impressive fireworks displays, great food, and rich history, look no further than these cities. If your summer travels will take you near any of these exciting events, consider making a special trip for a good dose of culture and fun.

Flagstaff, AZ

Located in north Arizona near the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff has an active culture scene and is one of the region’s best places to spend July 4th. Residents celebrate the holiday with a fun run, fireworks and a live performance from the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. If you find yourself in the city on the weekend before the holiday, be sure to check out the Wheeler Park’s Art in the Park and the Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

Bend, OR

Every year, thousands of visitors gather at Drake Park in Bend, Oregon for gunnysack races, hula hoop contests and walking tours. This year, the city will be hosting a 100k run, a 5k walk/run, a coffee tastings tour, a July 4th pet parade and several neighborhood festivals. The Old Fashioned Fourth of July Festival will feature old-fashioned games, live music brought by local talent, booths showcasing the work of the area’s artisans and a ton of food from local vendors.

Newton, PA

Come for the award-winning ice cream, stay for the charming small town Fourth of July events. Whether you decide to spend the day taking in a car show, a parade and live entertainment at Quakertown Community Day, you take the family to a day-long celebration at the Sesame Place or you explore the nation’s history at the Mercer Museum, you’re sure to have a memorable trip.

Boulder, CO

To celebrate Independence Day with a decidedly southwestern vibe, take a day trip to Boulder. Here, you’ll find a full schedule of events, complete with a beer garden, a fun run, and a bike rodeo. The city will host its annual Fourth of July Parade, which is to be followed by live music, games, and snacks. When the sun begins its descent, head over to Folsom Stadium for a fireworks display.

Whitefish, MT

For more than just fireworks, take a trip to the quaint city of Whitefish. This town is widely known for its annual events, including the Whitefish Art Festival. All around the city, you will find food booths from local vendors, bike races, live music and family fun. If outdoor sports are your thing, then you’ll be interested in the area’s many great fishing spots, its boat launches and its walking trails.
